Licensed Professional Counselor

Matthew (or Matt) is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Wittenberg University and two Master’s Degrees in Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from Walsh University. Matt has been working in college counseling centers since 2015 including Kenyon College, East Carolina University, and Miami University of Ohio, and is thrilled to be a member of CAPS at George Mason University. He also has experience in community mental health and inpatient psychiatric care and has offered individual therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, workshops, and presentations on various mental health topics throughout his career. Matt practices from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) theoretical orientation with some ACT therapy, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused, Reality Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy mixed in for flavor. He highly enjoys working with undergraduate and graduate/Ph.D. level students and his areas of interest include students with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, sleep concerns, homesickness, stress management issues, LGBTQI+ student concerns, students involved in Greek life, student athletes, any type of relationship concerns, and working with male identified students on men’s issues.
