Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at George Mason University offers walk-in Crisis Consultations each day for students who are concerned about their ability to keep themselves or others safe or are currently experiencing significant emotional distress. We encourage students to come to CAPS Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm so that we can best address your concerns.
Prior to meeting with an on-call clinician, you will be asked to complete initial paperwork to help us determine how to best support you. We carefully assess the needs of every student that seeks services at CAPS. As such, it is difficult to determine how long your appointment will take or how long you may have to wait to be seen. However, every effort will be made to see you as soon as possible. During your Crisis Consultation, the on-call clinician will review your concerns and, depending on your needs, determine next best steps to support you, which may involve follow-up with a different clinician than the one you met with during your Crisis Consultation appointment.
If you would like to speak with a clinician outside of the hours of Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, please call CAPS to consult about options for support. Please note, if you call outside of our normal business hours, you will receive a voice message directing you to additional options for support depending on your particular circumstances.
