Licensed Professional Counselor

Ann Penick is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Virginia as well as in Washington, DC, and a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in Maryland. Ann also holds a national counselor certification (NCC). She received her Master’s in Agency Counseling at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) and later received her Master’s in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Boston College in Boston, MA. Ann completed her internships, first at the Wellness Student Counseling Center at UAB and, later an internship with PATHWAYS (Jewish, Muslim, Christian interfaith student outreach) at Tufts University in Medford, MA. She has worked with college students since her internship at UAB going on to College of Charleston in South Carolina, then Emerson College and Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and Tufts University in Medford, MA. From 2008-2017, Ann established Counseling Services at the three campuses of the College of Southern Maryland. Just before coming to CAPS, Ann was a clinician with Federal Occupational Health in Washington, DC in their Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Her clinical approach is integrated, using cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, Solution-focused, and Person-Centered. Clinical interests include working with first-year college students, LGBTQIA+ student concerns, cultural concerns including faith-based issues, social justice, equality, and grief and loss. Services provided at CAPS include individual therapy, case management, facilitating support groups, and facilitating workshops.
