Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Keshani Perera, Psy.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Virginia. She received her Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from William Paterson University of New Jersey and completed an APA accredited doctoral internship at George Mason University (GMU)- Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Perera also completed a yearlong practicum training at the NYU Postdoc program for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, New York City. She approaches therapy from an integrative perspective within a trauma-informed, multicultural framework. While she practices integratively, Dr. Perera is strongly rooted in Relational Psychodynamics and Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches. She is intentional in creating a safe, welcoming, and collaborative space to understand your story holistically in the context of different forms of trauma, sociocultural, and other experiences you have endured; all parts of you are welcome! Her clinical interests include trauma, racial/ethnic minority issues, and immigration issues. Dr. Perera also has clinical interests in working with student-athletes and is a liaison to Mason Rec. Her research work is based in trauma, racial issues, ethnic/bicultural identity development, acculturation, and immigration issues. Dr. Perera is bilingual and speaks English and Sinhala.
Prior to pursuing a career in Psychology, Dr. Perera competed as a professional athlete in Track and Field (100m Hurdles) at an international level. She competed at multiple Asian and South Asian games and was qualified to compete at the World Youth Championship. During her free time, Dr. Perera enjoys painting, hiking, hanging out with her cat, and spending time at the beach.
