Assistant Director, Outreach Services

Calena (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia, a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Virginia Board Approved Supervisor. As the Assistant Director, Outreach Services, she provides leadership in the ongoing development and implementation of culturally inclusive and innovative mental health outreaches to meet the needs of our undergraduate and graduate students, with a focus on reaching historically marginalized students.

She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She has about 13 years of professional collegiate experience, eleven of those being within a college counseling center. Calena tailors counseling approaches based on the needs of the client. She operates from an integrative theoretical orientation, incorporating cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness and acceptance techniques, and a strengths-based approach. Some of her areas of interest include anxiety and mood disorders, interpersonal concerns, resiliency-building, and trauma-informed care. For leisure, Calena loves exploring new restaurants, taking walks, and singing and dancing in the mirror.
