Welcome to CAPS. We share this video so that you'll know what to expect when you walk into our space and meet our staff. When you first come in, you'll be taken care of by one of our friendly administrative support staff members. They'll check in with you and soon after this a clinician will meet with you very briefly to help identify what kind of appointment you need. Your very first appointment at CAPS, is going to be what we call an initial consultation. To be clear, the initial consultation is not therapy. The goal is to really figure out what is going on right now with each student and just like when you go to any other doctors office similarly CAPS, will ask you to fill out some initial paperwork to gather information on your history, and the concerns that brought you to CAPS. When coming into seek services, you have the option to work with a wide range of providers. CAPS has Counselors of different genders, providers of color, LGBTQ plus specialist, trauma specialists etc. Given the timing of the semester your availability, and the severity or urgency of your concern, will do our best to accommodate students request for providers. We also want to remind our campus community that CAPS, is a doctoral training site. We have advanced therapists in training who provide outstanding services. These therapists in training typically have the most availability and students can access services much more quickly when they work with them. Therapists in training are supervised by licensed clinical staff, and their psychotherapy sessions are recorded as part of their supervision. These recordings which are acquired by the Accrediting Association for the training program, are safeguarded and destroyed sooner but after they've been reviewed by the license supervisor or used as a way to make sure CAPS is providing the best clinically sound multicultural competent care. CAPS Raj short-term individual and group psychotherapy treatment and we're usually able to support students for the length of one semester and in some cases longer. We typically meet with students every 2-3 weeks. If you're needing more support than this, and are looking to be seen in an ongoing capacity, will support you in getting connected to a treatment provider in the community. Additionally, group therapy is one of the most effective and primary treatment modalities for college students and CAPS offers several groups each semester. CAPS has three different group rooms in our center. CAPS sees a lot of Mason students and provides an inclusive welcoming space for every student on campus. We appreciate that Mason students are diverse and are cognizant of the unique life challenges that our students face. Its CAPS mission to be supportive of all students. We hope you remember to call or visit us if you're seeking support or if you have any questions about our services. We look forward to seeing you and appreciate your willingness to trust us with your care.
